Change Your Innovation Perspective

Innovation PerspectiveIn the innovation world we often hear about ROI or return on investment. One of the biggest challenges to the innovation process and achieving a high ROI is staying effective. The problem is that during the innovation process we come up against mental blocks, a lack of focus, and highly complex problems. It is easy to get to the point where we just don’t know where to start. If you find yourself at this point you are not being effective.

Here is a quick strategy to get around ineffectiveness: change your perspective. Pick a different perspective from the one you have been functioning in and get to work!

  1. Look at the problem from an overall perspective. What is the big picture solution? What are the major elements needed and how do they fit together? What part of the innovation is dependant on another part? What is missing from the big picture? Don’t worry about the details!

  1. Look at the problem from a mid-level perspective. How do the different areas of the innovation work together? Look at general details, but don’t get caught up in anything too specific.

  1. Look at one detail of the problem from a close-up perspective. Try to solve one specific element of the problem. Work on this part of the innovation, polish it, and check it off the list.

Keep changing your perspective to remain effective during the innovation process as a helpful strategy.
